PhotoDial for the iPhone

There is a new way to dial your friends. A software called Photo Dial, developed by Makayama allows you to call contacts by selecting their pictures.

The way it works is by having a picture showed for every contact, which you can quickly scroll and click once you found the person you want to call.

You can select how many pictures at a time you want to see, and the order which they are displayed.

Here is a sample video of how it works:

If you liked the software, be aware that it costs $14.95 until March, and $19.95 after. So if you like it you should hurry up. Of course there is a trial version you can try before making the purchase. To use it start Installer on your iPhone, press Sources, then Edit, then Add. Next, type http://tinyurl.com/2t8cax

Rumor Bin: University Gives Freshmen iPhone or iPod Touch for ?free?

Unconfirmed thus far, but Abilene Christian University is planning on giving every freshmen (unsure as if they include previously enrolled studens) a brand new iPhone or iPod Touch, as a learning utensil.

The plan is to "receive homework alerts, answer in-class surveys and quizzes, get directions to their professors' offices, and check their meal and account balances" via the device, enriching the experience (as well as getting an awesome gadget!). It's not in effect yet, and no more information is available. It would be cool though.

LinkedIn Goes Mobile, Including iPhone

LinkedIn, a social networking site aimed at keeping in touch with business associates and friends, is now available for anyone who already owns a LinkedIn account, through its mobile website. Currently, the site is in beta.

This sudden move towards the mobile industry was brought on by several thousand iPhone users saying they use the site already, but utilizing the PC version, which works much slower. Now, the site is available as a beta for those wanting to try it out, with a final release planned for Spring 2008.

Additionally, besides being available in several languages like German and French, the new website will also support the Blackberry, as well as other portable devices.

If going through various menus and buttons is tedious, or you simply didn't want to use the voice app to make things easier (Also by Makayama) - Photo Dial allows you to assign pictures that allow you to easily call that person.

No need to scroll through a list of names, just add pictures to your contacts and you will see them appear in PhotoDial. A double-click on the home button will launch PhotoDial and a tap on a person's photo will initiate the call.

iPhone gets an Oscar

All right, it’s not quite true, but who knows, maybe next year. However it was featured on the Oscars today. John Stewart, this year’s host, used it to watch "Lawrence of Arabia". He showed how you can watch a movie in normal view and in wide screen. And after he gloriously showed the back side of the device to the event attendees.

This is just another example of how popular the device is.
