Rumor Bin: University Gives Freshmen iPhone or iPod Touch for ?free?

Unconfirmed thus far, but Abilene Christian University is planning on giving every freshmen (unsure as if they include previously enrolled studens) a brand new iPhone or iPod Touch, as a learning utensil.

The plan is to "receive homework alerts, answer in-class surveys and quizzes, get directions to their professors' offices, and check their meal and account balances" via the device, enriching the experience (as well as getting an awesome gadget!). It's not in effect yet, and no more information is available. It would be cool though.
